Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Oct. 18-20, 2024, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.
Giddy-up: Catch barrel races in the outfield and bucking broncos on the pitcher’s mound—the Corn Crib is hosting its first ever professional rodeo! 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday (doors at 5 p.m.); tickets $35 at the gate or $50 for a two-day pass. Parking is $15. cornbeltersbaseball.com.
Drop by and stay awhile: While artmaking with the kiddos at Saturdays at the Station, be sure to glimpse Big Art, Little Artists, a new exhibition featuring larger-than-life artworks by local artists John Miller and Tom and Addison Kirk. In a couple weeks, hop on the exhibition’s bus tour to get an up-close look at the most fantastical spaces around, returning to IAS for a reception with the artists. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday at Illinois Art Station; admission $8 at the door. illinoisartstation.org.
The puck stops here: Hockey is back in Bloomington with the Bison’s home opener against the Toledo Walleyes. The team lost their only pre-season game against the fuel, but home ice might be just what they need to kick of coach Phillip Barski’s inaugural year. Even better, this is the first of a handful of “309 nights,” with pre-game deals like $3 hot dogs, free popcorn and $9 t-shirts. 7 p.m. puck drop Saturday at Grossinger Motors Arena; tickets $20-$72 at bloomingtonbisonhockey.com.
