A Bloomington man is facing multiple charges after a crash that left a 27-year-old woman dead Sunday evening.

Michael Mitchell, 25, was arrested on charges of reckless homicide, driving on a revoked license, improper passing in a no passing zone, failure to report an accident involving death, and two counts of failing to give information or render aid in an accident involving injury or death, among other charges.

In a news release, Bloomington Police said officers responded to the area of Fox Creek and Beich roads around 7:49 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said Mitchell was the driver of a car traveling west on Fox Creek Road that collided with another car traveling east on the same road. Police said Mitchell abandoned the vehicle and left the scene, but was later located at a nearby apartment complex.

A 27-year-old passenger in the car Mitchell drove was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released and an autopsy is pending.

The driver of the eastbound car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by Bloomington Police, the McLean County coroner's office and the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team.

This story has been updated from its original version, which incorrectly reported who was killed in the crash. It was a passenger, not the other driver.
