Video: Bloomington-Normal residents share how they're feeling the day after the election

Donald Trump is headed for a second term in the White House, as McLean County's local races tipped toward the Democrats. WGLT spent time in Uptown Normal on Wednesday to get voters' reactions to the results. Passersby expressed a variety of feelings in the above video, transcribed below.

Renita Coleman: “I really don’t know how to feel about the election.”

Edward Latko: “I’m disappointed, of course. A lot of people are. A lot of college-age kids are.”

Alexis Thomas: “My initial reaction is, I’m excited.”

Kathleen Kirk: “I’m just so sad today.”

Sonoma Martin: “I’m not gonna lie, I just America does well after this. That’s all I can hope for, and that prices go down—and that Trump does a good job.”

Thomas: “He’s not your average politician. He’s more of like a businessman. I think America needs that to help us get back on our feet. I’m excited for, just, even other countries’ relations with us.”

Latko: “All he talks about is drilling for oil. He says, ‘Drill baby, drill.’ I do not agree with that.”

Kirk: “I’m walking down the street thinking of Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. And I just feel like we’re on the brink of something as awful as that.”

Latko: “Both of them are supporting fracking this election, so I decided to vote for third party.”

Coleman: “We’re here. We had it for four years. We’ve seen what’s happening with women’s rights. We’ve seen what could possibly happen with other rights.”

Chloe Kindred: “I’m a Christian, so that’s something that I really do care about. And I also was adopted. So, that’s something where I’m like, my mom could have chosen to not life, and I’m just thankful and glad she did.”

Kirk: “It’s a lot of vulnerable people in our country that are going to be harmed by this.”
