McLean County's political party leaders have announced their candidates for Normal Township's spring election.
Supervisor Jess Ray has chosen not to run to maintain his spot as the fiduciary agent for the township. Three of four trustees are not seeking re-election, leaving openings for newcomers to step in.
Democratic McLean County Board member Krystle Able is seeking to succeed Ray, overseeing emergency assistance funding, the Activity and Recreation Center and services for unincorporated Normal. Able is active in the Central Illinois chapter of the ACLU and West Bloomington Revitalization Project. She has been vocal on seeking progressive solutions to Bloomington-Normal's housing crunch. If elected, Illinois law would allow Able to hold two elected positions and maintain her seat on the county board.
Republican Chad Berck is running against Able in the April 1, 2025, consolidated election. Berck made two unsuccessful swings for a seat on the McLean County Board. He was defeated in November by Elizabeth Johnston, who has since been appointed chair. Berck has been an active participant in Normal Town Council and Unit 5 school board meetings, previously stating he wants McLean County voters to have options.
The Republican ticket also includes Karl Sila for township clerk. Kent DePew and Arin Rader are running to maintain their positions as assessor and highway commissioner. And four trustees are on the ballot: incumbent Floyd Aper and Randall Schaab, Ron Ulmer and Mary Cottier.
Democrat Dayna Schickedanz is running as an incumbent for clerk, with Democratic candidates Nayoka Griffis, Dylan Hile-Broad, Tanner Starr and Natasha Syed vying to become trustees.
