Heartland trustees appointed Jon Kilgore, currently the superintendent of Pontiac Township High School District 90, to fill a board seat vacated earlier this month.

A longtime Pontiac schools administrator joined Heartland Community College’s governing body Tuesday night.

During a special meeting Tuesday, trustees appointed Jon Kilgore, superintendent of Pontiac Township High School District 90, to fill a board seat vacated earlier this month.

Jeffery Flessner, a 10-plus-year member of the board, announced in mid-November he would resign his seat Dec. 1, saying he intended to spend more time with his family.

Kilgore will serve the remainder of Flessner’s term, which was set to expire in the spring. He will not be on the ballot in the April election, though the seat he occupies will be one of three up for election.

Four candidates are running for the available seats, including incumbents Janet Hood and Thomas Whitt.

Laurie Bergner, a Bloomington psychotherapist active with the League of Women Voters McLean County, and Dave Selzer, a former county board member, are also seeking a spot on the board.

Heartland has campuses in Normal, Lincoln and Pontiac and serves more than 4,000 students.
