Two Bloomington residents were killed in separate shootings one night apart in Champaign.
The Champaign County coroner’s office says Heaven M.A. Hope, 21, died at about 7:49 p.m. on Dec. 9 following a shooting in the 2400 block of West Springfield Avenue in the western part of Champaign. Hope died at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Champaign police said Hope was struck by gunfire multiple times inside a business and and the suspect fled the area on foot.
Coroner Laurie Brauer said Alvin J. Park, 42, was pronounced dead at 9:57 p.m. on Dec. 10 after he was shot in the 1500 block of Dobbins Drive in northwest Champaign. The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident as a homicide. No arrests have been made in either case. The coroner and police in Champaign County are investigating both incidents. Authorities have not indicated whether these shootings could be related.
