Construction at the Normal Public Library is underway. Library Director John Fischer said the asbestos abatement is done and now construction crews are working on renovations.
When reopened, community members can expect the same services they had access to before the construction, along with improvements such as more natural lighting, some new furniture, a reconfigured service desk, and a maker space.
Laura Golaszewski, the library’s patron experience manager, said she is most excited for the new maker space. The space on the children’s floor that was previously a story hour space and then a storage area will now be a space for makers of all ages. The maker space will have 3D printers and other technologies open to the public that the library has yet to narrow down.
Golaszewski added that the children’s discovery area is not going anywhere; it is just getting refreshed.
The Normal Public Library is expected to reopen in June. In the meantime community members are encouraged to use the temporary branch across the street located at the former Busey Bank on 201 W. College Ave.
