Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Jan. 10-12, 2025, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.
Be artsy: The McLean County Arts Center officially cuts the ribbon on three new exhibitions, including Vietnamese artist Jade Minh Ha Nguyễn’s photo essay documenting her vanishing homeland as it’s scooped up by corporate enterprise. An intergenerational show, Kindred Spirits, features paintings from former Illinois Wesleyan University School of Art director Miles Bair and his son Ryan. Family therapist Laurie Bergner rounds out the trio, offering photojournalistic images from the Congo. Opening reception 5-7 p.m. Friday; free. Exhibitions run through Feb. 21. mcac.org.
Get a ticket: Bloomington is one of just 12 cities to get a month-long acoustic tour called the Living Room Sessions, an MTV Unplugged-esque set of stripped-down Halestorm songs. Guitarist Joe Hottinger accompanies Lzzy Hale’s powerful vocals in more-intimate-than-usual venues like this one. 8 p.m. Friday at Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts; tickets $40-$59 at 309-434-2777 and artsblooming.org.
Make stuff (and friends): Old House Society hosts a rehab workshop where tinkerers looking to reduce, reuse and restore can learn to rewire a lamp. They’ll provide all the needed supplies — except for the lamp. 11 a.m. Saturday at the Old House Society Warehouse; free with RSVP at 309-820-0548. Donations accepted. oldhousesociety.org.
