Candy manufacturing company Ferrero North America and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker handed out Nutella-based treats in Springfield on the eve of World Nutella Day, a globally recognized holiday.
World Nutella Day is held annually on Feb. 5. The first World Nutella Day was in 2007.
At the celebration, Ferrero North America and Pritzker also declared that in Illinois, the day will now be recognized as Illinois Nutella Day, too.
As part of his declaration, Pritzker noted the day should "honor Ferrero's significant investments in the state, the many employees who contribute to its success, and the joy that Nutella spreads throughout our communities."
Ferrero’s Bloomington production facility doesn't make Nutella, but it makes famous snack brands such as Crunch candy bar, Sno-Caps, Kinder Bueno, Raisinets and 100 Grand Bar. The Bloomington plant has seen investments totaling $285 million from Ferrero, which has added more than 250 jobs.
Ferrero’s presence in Illinois is marked by its Bloomington facility, an Innovation Center in Chicago and more than 40 Fannie May retail spots operated by Ferrero.
