Harold Gregor was an artist primarily known for his landscapes of the Midwest.

His wife, Marlene Gregor, said Harold “was a man that possessed many talents and he displayed them for us with his beautiful artwork of Central Illinois.”

Harold died in 2018 and Marlene said she is trying to reduce his extensive painting inventory as of 2025.

“Because of my age, I need to really start to seriously think [about] what we're going to do with his inventory," said Marlene, who is almost 93 years old.

Harold Gregor’s paintings are for sale at discounted prices at cometogetherspace in Bloomington.

Marlene said that Matt Erickson at cometogetherspace has been her sidekick through the selling process.

“It was his idea to take some of [Harold’s] works and put them in a sale,” Marlene said.

Artwork for sale

Erickson, co-owner of the cometogetherspace gallery and studios, said there is no specific curation to Harold Gergor’s paintings.

“It's a pretty wonderful mix,” said Erickson. “So we have things made by Harold starting in the early '60s, as [far] back as ‘61, ‘62 with his drawings. And then up until the year he passed, 2018.”

There are even some pieces in the gallery that do not look like traditional Gregors.

Erickson described one of those paintings: “You've got a mixture of painted repetition dots with stickers, fluorescent tape, watercolor. There's a bit of a landscape in with this crazy pattern that maybe he put ink or paint onto a firm surface and then laid the paper on, almost like a print. But if I saw this out in the world, I would have no idea that this was a Harold Gregor.”

Discounted art

Erickson said the main reason for this display is to make Harold Gregor’s artwork available to more people.

Those who are interested can get an original Harold Gregor watercolor for as low as $200. Works that were originally $4,000 are discounted at $1,500.

“So [we’re] trying to give people an opportunity to get things that they normally could not get,” said Erickson. “Also, specifically, to get younger people to collect original works of art. So people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, that really want to get something original and something fresh and cool and in their price range.”

Erickson said Marlene Gregor has been enjoying her husband’s works for decades, but wants them to go into other homes.

Marlene said Harold had many beautiful paintings but she keeps one of her favorites above her couch.

“It's happy and bright and it has a lot of the primary colors, a lot of blues, and I favor blues,” Marlene said.

Marlene said some people describe Harold’s work as “flat and sort of ugly looking,” referring to the landscape. “Look again. Look at the vitality and look how our earth is. It supplies us [with] all these beautiful fields. Now people will drive the rural routes, and they say, ‘I see a Harold Gregor.’”

Harold Gregor’s drawings and paintings can be found at cometogetherspace in Bloomington until they are all sold. Those who want to view the show and potentially purchase the art can contact Matt Erickson on cometogetherspace's Facebook page, at Vision714@hotmail.com or at 309-242-7207.
