TedxNormal will mark its 10th anniversary at Heartland Community College's Astroth Community Education Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 5.
The theme for this year’s discussions is "Still Anything But Normal," a nod to the original tagline. The nonprofit aims to bring together community members to answer the question: How can we continue to make space for new ideas in a risk-averse environment?
The goal of the discussions is to promote forward-thinking conversations, challenge the status quo, and embrace nonconformity, according to its website. TedxNormal highlights “instigators, disruptors, troublemakers, and change agents” through storytelling.
Since its inception in Normal, 92 speakers have shared their ideas with the community. The upcoming event will feature speakers such as Shanika Green, founder of "Ministry of Mom," and Dr. Rebecca Hubbard, a licensed clinical psychologist and yoga instructor.
Green will discuss how parents can become lost in daily responsibilities and introduce a method she created to combat the monotony of life.
Hubbard will focus on working-class communities, challenging the "Hustle Culture" mentality and its connection to equating self-worth with productivity.
The event moved to Heartland Community College last year.
