3 things to do this weekend: See a play, hunt for eggs, save the planet

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of April 18-20, 2025, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Laugh out loud: Grumpy siblings, roommates and freeloaders Vanya and Sonia are thrown out of whack when their 5-times married, movie star sister Masha shows up with news about the family home and a new 20-something boy toy named Spike. Len Childers directed Christopher Durang’s sit-com-styled living room comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, now in its final weekend at Heartland Theatre. 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; tickets $19 at 309-452-8709 and heartlandtheatre.org.

Find an egg: Take your pick from a handful of Saturday Easter egg hunts. LIFE CIL has a sensory and allergen-friendly option; Destihl’s got a kids’ hunt and a 21+ version; Mega Replay isn’t just candy; Bloomington Country Club comes with a lunch buffet and Downtown Bloomington has age-tiered options for toddlers through 12-year-olds. On Sunday, Keg Grove has a hunt just for grown-ups—with beer flights!

Turn trash into treasure: Miller Park Zoo is dressed up for Earth Day this weekend, including a recycled art contest, back by popular demand. Artists young and old are encouraged to submit animal-shaped sculptures repurposing foraged recyclable products (plastic, wood, paper, aluminum, etc.) to be voted on during Saturday’s Party for the Planet, a nationwide campaign encouraging eco-friendly lifestyles. Art submissions due by 4:30 p.m. Friday; register by emailing sschuh@cityblm.org. Party for the Planet is Saturday 12-2 p.m.; free with Zoo admission.
