Heartland Community College plans to begin 3 extensive projects this spring.

The Heartland Community College Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote Tuesday night on three construction projects slated to begin this spring.

The proposed developments include new classrooms and networking labs, a student center and an extension of the Constitution Trail. The combined cost of the projects is estimated at $6.4 million.

The second phase of Heartland's new student center is projected to cost $2.75 million and aligns with the college’s 2020 facility master plan, according to Heartland staff. The proposed space will include a wellness room, a multipurpose food pantry and clothing closet, updated areas for student counseling and esports and a student lounge overlooking the atrium.

Construction would also begin on the computer networking labs in the Instructional Commons North building [ICN] and a classroom remodeling project, with a projected cost of $2.3 million. The project includes two new labs, a server room to showcase technology, an AutoCAD lab, a business technology lab and a Math Success Center. The renovation will also include new flooring, paint, lighting, fixtures, furnishings and audiovisual enhancements.

The college anticipates both projects will be completed by the end of the year.

A third project, with an estimated cost of nearly $1.4 million focuses on connecting Constitution Trail to the Heartland campus via Raab Road. The addition will feature a new bike path and expanded access to amenities such as fishing piers, a pavilion, a bridge and bird-watching blinds.

Construction is expected to be completed this summer.
