Illinois State men's basketball coach Ryan Pedon has signed a contract extension that will keep him a Redbird for five more seasons.
Pedon recently led the Redbirds to their winningest season in eight years, and the team won the College Basketball Invitational title last season.
Pedon signed a five-year-contract when he came to ISU in 2022. His base salary is $550,000. The contract includes an array of financial incentives tied to wins, postseason success, academic achievement and home game attendance.
Pedon [48-52 in three seasons] replaced Dan Muller, who was fired after the 2021-22 season. The Redbirds finished 22-14, double their win total from Pedon’s first season.
“Being the head coach at Illinois State means the world to my family and I,” Pedon said in a statement. “We love being a part of this special community and look forward to the future ahead of us here in Bloomington-Normal. Over the past three years, we have worked hard to plant our program’s roots for future success.”
The Redbirds had two All-MVC honorees last season in Chase Walker [first team] and Johnny Kinziger [second team]. The Redbirds also set a program record with a 3.54 team GPA last fall. Both players are returning next season.
“We're thrilled to extend Ryan's contract, ensuring continued leadership and success for our men's basketball program,” said ISU Director of Athletics Jeri Beggs. “Coach Pedon and his staff have done everything you can ask, creating a winning culture with outstanding young men, setting GPA records on the academic side, and engaging with the community in so many positive ways.”
