The Baby Fold in Normal is demolishing one building on its Willow Street campus, starting May 24.
Randle Hall is located on the southeast side of the property near Linden and Willow streets. It’s attached to Hammitt School, which will remain.
“Randle Hall has served The Baby Fold well over the years, but it is no longer feasible for continued use,” said Sam Guillory, vice president for development and public relations at The Baby Fold. “After a thorough evaluation and cost-benefit analysis, it became clear that maintaining or renovating Randle Hall would not be a responsible use of resources. As faithful stewards of our resources, we are committed to making thoughtful decisions that ensure long-term sustainability and allow us to focus our resources on the children and families we serve.”
Demolition begins May 24. It’s not expected to impact traffic at nearby Linden and Willow. It’s expected to be done before the start of Hammitt School’s summer session.
After demolition, The Baby Fold says it will create a “peaceful green space for staff and student reflection, renewal, and remembrance” of Randle Hall.
Staff previously housed in Randle Hall were relocated to the adjacent Hammitt School building in January. The demolition will not impact any other structures, programs, or services.
The Baby Fold provides foster care, special education, early childhood programming, and adoption support services throughout Central Illinois. It also operates a second Hammitt School campus on Oglesby Avenue in Normal, as well as locations on Susan Drive in Normal, Market Street in Bloomington, and in Urbana and Springfield.
