Republican Lyndsay Bloomfield is leaving the McLean County Board.

A McLean County Board member who represents parts of south and west Bloomington and much of western McLean County has resigned.

McLean County Board chair Elizabeth Johnston has confirmed Lyndsay Bloomfield, a Republican serving District 3, previously submitted her resignation, effective July 4.

Bloomfield cited work and family obligations as the reasons for her departure, according to Johnston. Bloomfield did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The county has 60 days to fill the vacancy. Johnston plans to formally announce the resignation and the application process to find a successor at the board’s monthly meeting on July 17.

Johnston, a Democrat, said she plans to nominate a replacement and have them seated during the board’s August meeting. They are required to be from the same party as the departing board member.

Bloomfield was elected to the board in 2018 and was re-elected to a four-year term in 2022. She served on the board’s health and property committees. According to county board attendance records online, Bloomfield rarely attended committee meetings and had not attended a full county board meeting since January.

The candidate named to replace Bloomfield would serve until the November 2026 election.
