Gov. JB Pritzker has named Archer Daniels Midland [ADM] executive Kris Lutt to fill a vacancy on the Illinois State University Board of Trustees.

Lutt replaces Scott Jenkins, who announced his resignation from the board for personal reasons. Jenkins, who was appointed to the board in 2023, attended his final meeting on Friday.

Lutt serves as president of sustainable materials and strategic initiatives at ADM. He’s responsible for the growth of strategy in key areas such as defossilization, decarbonization and BioSolutions, according to the governor’s office.

“We are honored to welcome Kris to the Illinois State University Board of Trustees,” said ISU President Aondover Tarhule. “He exemplifies the kind of success and service we hope to inspire in all Redbirds. His personal journey — from student to global executive — reflects the transformative power of an Illinois State education. We look forward to the insight, integrity, and innovation he will bring to our Board.”

Lutt received a master of business administration degree from Illinois State University in 2006, after graduating with a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“Lutt is a results-oriented executive in the agriculture and food ingredient industry with a track record of increasing profits, encouraging expansion, and fostering a positive corporate culture,” according to a statement from the governor.

Lutt’s appointment is pending Illinois Senate approval, but he can begin serving in the role immediately.
