Bloomington Police say a juvenile girl was hospitalized after she drove her car into the Kohl's Department store building at Eastland Mall early Monday morning.
Police say the girl's injuries were not considered life threatening. She was located nearby following the crash, which happened shortly before 4 a.m.
The Bloomington Fire Department says the crash ignited a fire along the exterior wall of the building.
The fire department says no one was in the car when crews arrived on scene. The vehicle was found partially inside the store.
“This incident is ongoing, with crews continuing to fight fire in large, hidden areas along the exterior wall. Access to this part of the building is difficult, requiring extensive use of hand tools and saws on the roof,” fire department spokesperson Frank Friend said in a news release.
The fire department asked the public to stay away from the area while crews remained on scene.
Police say the crash remains under investigation.
