Teen in critical condition after house fire rescue in Normal

A mobile home fire in North Normal was contained within 30 minutes. Officials said the home is a total loss.

A 13-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire early Sunday in North Normal.

According to a department spokesperson, Normal firefighters were dispatched at 1:50 a.m. Sunday to the 800 block of 2nd Street in the Northmeadow Village mobile home community.

During a search, firefighters located the unresponsive teenager in a bedroom. A second occupant of the home had been unable to reach the boy and called 911 from a neighbor's house.

Paramedics restored a pulse and spontaneous breathing on the way to the hospital. Authorities report no other injuries.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, with the home deemed a total loss.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
