The Salvation Army in Bloomington has opened its emergency winter shelter.

The shelter offers hot meals, showers and laundry facilities, individual case management and support from community partners.

The Salvation Army said the seasonal expansion of its shelter program is intended to help ensure that no one in is left out in the cold, adding the goal is to provide holistic homelessness services to help move people toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

“This shelter is more than a warm bed — it’s a lifeline,” said Major Dan Leisher. “We’re deeply grateful to our generous donors whose support makes this expansion possible.”

The Salvation Army relies on donations to provide its services.

The emergency winter shelter housed more than 150 people last winter, providing nearly 3,000 overnight stays.

The emergency shelter will operate through mid-March.
