The McLean County sites include both Sherwin-Williams paint store locations in Bloomington and Normal, and the RP Lumber stores in Bloomington and LeRoy. Additional locations include El Paso and Clinton.

McLean County has four drop-off locations for disposal of latex and oil-based paints. The PaintCare Stewardship Program plan proposed in October has since been approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

The program serves as a recycling effort to provide leftover paint to the public at a lower cost.

Beginning Dec. 1, anyone could access the select locations to dispose of unwanted paint. These new locations are in addition to the 300 already announced statewide.

The McLean County sites include both Sherwin-Williams paint store locations in Bloomington and Normal, and the RP Lumber stores in Bloomington and LeRoy. Additional locations include El Paso and Clinton.

The drop-off locations will only accept the following:

  • Interior and exterior architectural paints: latex, acrylic, water-based, alkyd, oil-based, enamel
  • Deck coatings, floor paints (including elastomeric)
  • Primers, sealers, undercoaters
  • Stains
  • Shellacs, lacquers, varnishes, urethanes (single component)
  • Waterproofing concrete, masonry and wood sealers and repellents (not tar- or bitumen-based)
  • Metal coatings, rust preventatives

The stores will not accept leaking or empty containers or those without the original manufacturer's label, paint thinners, aerosol paints, or any caulking compounds, glues or adhesives.

There is no charge for dropping off paint at a PaintCare drop-off site. It's funded by a fee that's tacked on to each new paint container sold in Illinois.

To view all of the drop-off locations, visit PaintCare’s website.
