The public is invited to tour Bloomington’s soon-to-open non-congregate shelter village for the unhoused during an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony next week.
The open house (with guided tours) at The Bridge is set for 3-4 p.m. Jan. 6, followed by the ribbon-cutting at 4 p.m., then some additional tours. Community members, partners, and supporters are invited to learn more about “how the village will provide safety, dignity, and stability for individuals experiencing homelessness,” organizers said.
The Bridge, located at 104 E. Oakland Ave. just south of Downtown Bloomington, is a project led by Home Sweet Home Ministries with a mix of privately raised and public funding. It will consist of 48 sleeping cabins able to accommodate up to 56 adults; a community building with a kitchen, living room area and offices for service providers; and a bathhouse.
Home Sweet Home says The Bridge “represents a significant step forward in addressing homelessness in McLean County by offering private, non-congregate shelter units paired with supportive services designed to help residents move toward permanent housing and long-term stability.”
Parking for the Jan. 6 event will be available nearby in Home Sweet Home’s main parking lot as well as at Eastview Community Center.
