Illinois State Athletics will host a celebration on Jan. 14 in honor of the Redbird football team’s historic NCAA FCS Championship game. The Redbirds ended the game on Jan. 5 with a 35-34 loss against No. 2 Montana State.
Montana State scored a fourth down pass in overtime and converted the extra point kick to finish the game.
Still, the Redbirds broke many records on their journey to the championship game, as it had only been accomplished one other time in school history. To commemorate the season, ISU will host its celebration inside CEFCU Arena at 5 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
Head coach Brock Spack and select players will speak at the event, which will also feature special videos and recaps. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive free food and the first 1,500 will get a commemorative team poster to celebrate the national runner-up finish.
At the conclusion, fans are welcome to remain in CEFCU Arena and watch the video board as the Redbird men’s basketball team takes on Indiana State at 6 p.m.
