Lake Road Inn in rural Hudson has closed until further notice.

Serving Central Illinois for nearly a century, the historic Lake Road Inn in rural Hudson is closing after the unexpected death of its owner.

Craig Hanson, who owned and operated the bar and restaurant, died a few weeks ago, the establishment said in a Facebook post released Jan. 9.

“LRI isn’t the same without Dad,” said Hanson’s son, Jack Hanson. “It never will be."

Jack Hanson said the restaurant was closed until further notice with no immediate plans to reopen.

"We do not have a timeline of events but from what I understand at this point, we will not be able to continue operating The Lake Road Inn," he said.

Lake Road Inn was a staple for locals, visitors and members of the Lake Run Club, often hosting after-parties for the fitness group.

Located near Lake Bloomington, the bar was popular with runners and cyclists stopping by between workouts.

The restaurant was praised by patrons for its mix of classic bar fare — from burgers and steaks to the much‑anticipated Friday fish fry.

Hanson purchased the restaurant in 2015. Under his ownership, revenues increased more than 40%, according to the restaurant's website.

Outside of the restaurant, Hanson was known for his charitable involvement in the Bloomington-Normal community. An alumnus of Illinois State University, he had a background in sales and insurance.

Courtney Conroy is a student intern who hosts Highway 309 on the weekends. She joined the station in 2024.
