Public school students in Bloomington-Normal will have an e-learning day on Friday due to the extreme cold.
Unit 5 and District 87 announced Thursday that there will be no in-person school on Friday. Both districts are doing an e-learning day instead.
In Unit 5, all Friday morning practices are canceled. Friday afternoon practices may start after 2:30 p.m. and must be completed by 8 p.m. Friday evening games and events may proceed as scheduled. Weekend activities are currently scheduled to continue as planned, but please note this is subject to change.
Illinois State University laboratory schools [Thomas Metcalf School and University High School] will be closed on Friday.
Most McLean County schools plan to have remote learning days tomorrow; including Heyworth, LeRoy, Lexington, Olympia, Ridgeview and Tri-Valley. Three schools, Calvary Christian Academy and Mulberry School in Normal and Cornerstone Christian Academy will be closed on Friday.
The National Weather Service has elevated Friday’s deep freeze to an Extreme Cold Warning, with wind chills expected to fall to 25 to 30 degrees below zero.
