Connect Transit is Bloomington-Normal’s public transit system.

Connect Transit’s fare collection system will go contactless this summer. The provider of public transportation in McLean County said it is a part of its upgraded system.

The new system will provide riders with a faster, more convenient way to pay fares, save money and manage their accounts, according to the organization.

Connect Transit is inviting the community to attend upcoming public engagement sessions to learn about the system and provide feedback.

Those are:

  • Thursday, March 5 at the ISU Alumni Center from 3 - 6 p.m.
  • Friday, March 6 at YWCA from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 12 at Bloomington Public Library from 4 - 7 p.m.

Connect Transit said with the launch of the new system, fares on fixed routes and Connect Mobility will not be changed. However, Flex service will be updated to $1.25 per ride.

Flex rides currently cost $1 per ride. Connect Transit said the change aligns with their “one fare for all” standard. Junior high and high school students will receive a new discount of $0.50 per ride with a Connect Transit ID card.
