Group Tool, Inc. has operated in Lexington since 1985, specializing in injection and compression molding and in-house tool design of industrial plastics.

A McLean County manufacturer plans to expand, adding a 100,000-square-foot facility to its Lexington plant.

Group Tool, Inc. specializes in injection and compression molding and in-house tool design of industrial plastics. The company operates 42 presses ranging from 40-700 tons.

"Group Tool has been part of Lexington's story since 1985," Lexington Mayor Spencer Johansen said in a statement. "Their continued investment here speaks to the strength of our workforce and business community. We are proud to support this expansion and the opportunities it will create not only for Lexington, but all of Central Illinois."

Construction will begin this year and is expected to take eight months. Johansen told WGLT the initiative could add up to 30 skilled manufacturing jobs. The company currently employs 40 workers.

Group Tool, Inc. was acquired by Pioneer Plastics in 2005, a Minnesota-based manufacturer with facilities in Minnesota and China.

Lexington is located 15 miles northwest of Bloomington-Normal, with a population of just over 2,000 people.
