A 23-year-old Mahomet man has been arrested for alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

Bloomington police said Eswin Ixcotoyac-Tzoy portrayed himself as a 16-year-old on social media and traveled to Bloomington from the Champaign County village 40 miles southwest of the Twin Cities to meet a Bloomington teenager in person. He then allegedly committed acts that constitute sexual abuse of a juvenile.

Authorities said they were alerted when the girl, from Bloomington, found out Ixotoyac-Tzoy was an adult. The case was referred to Bloomington Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.

Police interviewed him on Monday. He was taken into custody the same day.

Ixotoyac-Tzoy is facing seven felony counts, including four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a juvenile aged 13 to 16, grooming, traveling to meet a minor and solicitation of a child.

He was denied pre-trial release and is being held in the McLean County jail. The date of his next court appearance has not yet been set.
