Normal Police lined police tape along several homes and apartment buildings in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue as an Illinois State Police investigator gathered evidence from the scene of a shooting on Sunday morning.

Normal Police said Monday the six victims of Sunday’s early morning mass shooting near the Illinois State University campus were between the ages of 17 and 19.

The victims of the shooting in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue were all taken to the hospital. Police have not provided their conditions, but have said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, which happened in an apartment building parking lot at the scene of a large party. The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear.

Normal Police Chief Steve Petrilli has refused repeated requests for an interview on the investigation.

Four of the victims are from Bloomington-Normal. The two others are from Peoria and Chicago. Illinois State University Police said two of the victims are ISU students. Four of the six victims are male.

Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the incident. “We believe there may be individuals who were present at the gathering or in the surrounding area who have information critical to this investigation,” the department said in a statement.

Police ask anyone who was in the area during the time of the shooting to review any evidence they may have, including home security camera footage, cell phone photos or videos, dash camera recordings and social media posts or messages related to the incident.

“Even information that may seem minor could be significant to investigators,” the department said.

Police were called to the area at about 2:40 a.m. for a report of shots fired. Petrilli said two of the victims were taken by Normal Fire Department crews to the hospital. The rest were transported by private vehicle to the hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Normal Police Department at 309-454-9535.
