After 28 years as head coach of the Central Catholic Girls Basketball program, Debbie Coffman has officially retired. She coached basketball for 32 years in total at Central Catholic High School.

“The relationships, memories, lessons and growth we shared will stay with me forever. I have been blessed beyond words by the players, fellow coaches and the entire Central Catholic community. Each season brought new challenges, victories and countless moments that shaped who I am today,” Coffman said in a statement.

“Watching our players grow not only as athletes but as people has been the most rewarding part of this journey.”

In a WGLT interview just after her 600th win in 2024, Coffman marked the milestone and spoke highly of the school, her players and the community around the team.

Throughout her career at the school, her overall record was 634 to 204 with multiple accolades, including a state title in 2010 and runner up in 2011 and 2017 and earning the rank of the top 15 winningest coach in IHSA Girls Basketball history.

She also holds zero losing seasons.

Athletic Director Nathan Thomas congratulated Coffman, also affectionately known as “Coach K,” on her well-deserved retirement.

“What Coach K has done for the Central Catholic Girls Basketball program is unfathomable in the current landscape of youth athletics,” he said. “The top-tier program she has built over her 28 years as our head coach is a testament to her selfless dedication to our school and our student-athletes.”

Coffman called her time at Central Catholic one of the greatest blessings of her life.
Thomas said the search for a new coach will begin soon.
