Bloomington Police say a 50-year-old Bloomington man riding an electric scooter was struck and killed by a van late this morning.

Police say the crash happened at about 10:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West Division Street. The Bloomington Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene.

The scooter operator died at a local hospital. His name is being withheld pending notification of family. Authorities from the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team also responded, due to the severity of the crash.

The driver of the van was not seriously hurt.

Police said no citations have been issued and no criminal charges have been filed, but the case remains under investigation.

In a statement, Assistant Chief James Clesson stated, "Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident during this difficult time. A fatal crash is a tragedy that affects families and the entire community. The Accident Reconstruction Team is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this crash."
