Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner will seek public input at three town hall meetings in December.

The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the YWCA McLean County; Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts; and Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Miller Park Pavilion. All sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7.

Renner said the meetings will not have a set plan.

“While there will be no formal agenda, I will give a brief, high-level update from the mayor’s perspective on a range of recent and upcoming items of note, such as the city’s budget,” Renner said. “However, my primary goal is to hear from and engage with Bloomington constituents, whose ideas and feedback are so vital to the city’s operation.”

The town hall meetings are aimed to give the public a voice on popular city subjects with the mayor in a face-to-face setting. Last month Renner announced he was changing the format of his Friday open houses, requiring appointments instead of allowing people to just show up.

“We take transparency seriously in Bloomington, having received a 100 percent transparency score from the Illinois Policy Institute, and I’m very proud of that,” Renner said. “However, as far as I’m concerned, we can always do even more to reach out to our residents and get them engaged.”
