Peoria Gang Charged In Murder Of Bradley Student

Federal prosecutors announced sweeping indictments Tuesday against 15 alleged members of a Peoria street gang, including charges in the death of a Bradley University student.

Members of the Peoria street gang Bomb Squad allegedly supplied a juvenile gang member with the gun used to kill Bradley pre-med student Nasjay Murry and Anthony Polnitz on April 8.

The indictments, unsealed Tuesday, allege that members of the Bomb Squad engaged in acts of violence over several years including murder, attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, arson, and drug trafficking. Charges include 46 overt acts dating back to 2013, many of which involved rival gang members.

All 15 defendants are charged with one count of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy, which carries a possible life sentence if convicted.

Twelve are charged with at least one count of Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering including assault with a dangerous weapon and attempted murder. Other charges include marijuana, crack cocaine, and heroin drug trafficking and possession of firearms by felons.

The charges came from an ongoing investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, which partners federal, state, and local law enforcement to handle drug trafficking organizations and violent street gangs.
