Mays Extradited Back to McLean County In Riley Drive Shootings
UPDATED 4:30 p.m. | A 25-year-old Bloomington man was extradited back to McLean County on Thursday to face murder charges stemming from a triple homicide on Riley Drive.
Bloomington Police say Sydney Mays Jr. was the gunman in the June 18 shooting that killed three men and seriously wounded a 4-year-old boy. He allegedly fled Illinois after the shooting and was arrested weeks later in Milwaukee on drug charges. He's been there ever since.
Bloomington detectives transported Mays back to McLean County on Thursday, police said. He's being held at the McLean County jail. Mays is expected to appear in bond court on Friday. His bond was initially set at $7 million (10 percent) when a warrant was issued for his arrest, authorities said.
Killed in the shooting were Corey Jackson, 22, Nathaniel Pena, 22, and Juan Perez-Macedo, 33, all of Bloomington. The 4-year-old survived. It's unclear what led to the violence.
It was part of a series of fatal shootings in Bloomington-Normal throughout the spring and summer.
