Bloomington public works crews don't want everyone setting out their bulk waste and brush on May 1 this year for the annual spring collection.
Public Works Director Jim Karch said the city has decided it will pick up bulk waste on its regular brush pickup days for the expected two weeks of the collection.
“We are trying to decrease the amount of bulk (waste) and brush at the curb for long periods of time,” Karch said. “We said, ‘Let’s go ahead and make it easier for our citizens, rather than everyone put their material in the entire community out on one day, that keeps material sitting out on the curb for too long.”
Bloomington set up the free bulk waste collections for May and Nov. 1 last year after it pulled back on every-other-week collections as part of a broad plan to boost revenue in its solid waste program.
Public works charges $25 per bucket for bulk waste pickup outside of the two free collections. The city takes the bulk waste and brush year round at its Citizen Convenience Center, 402 S. East St.
RecycleBN.org and the Recycle Coach app lists the city's brush collection schedule.
