Bloomington City Manager Tim Gleason has named two interim police chiefs who will split time while he conducts a national search for a new chief.
Gleason has announced assistant Chief Greg Scott, a 20-year veteran of the force, will serve the next approximately four weeks as interim chief. Scott was a lieutenant in the criminal investigations division prior to becoming assistant chief in 2016.
Assistant Chief Don Donath will then serve as interim chief for approximately the following four weeks. Donath has been with the department since 1994. He served as first shift sergeant prior to becoming assistant chief in 2018.

Clay Wheeler announced in April he was retiring after 31 years with the department, the last year as chief. His last day is Friday.
“We are very fortunate to have Greg Scott and Dan Donath as assistant chiefs, both ready and willing to serve the department and community in his interim capacity,” Gleason said in a news release. “I feel confident both of them will be able to lead the department will as we continue to look at all possibilities for permanent police chief.”
Gleason has also sought community input as the city’s Public Safety Community Relations Board hosted a public input session to gather feedback last week.
Gleason said he expects to hire a new chief later this summer.
The city is hosting a retirement open house for Wheeler fomr noon-2 p.m. Friday at the BPD's Osborn Room, 305 S. East St.
