District 87 is looking to fill a vacancy on its school board following Mary Yount’s resignation.
The retired nurse has served on the board since she was first elected in 2009. She was reelected in 2013 and 2017.

“At this stage of my life, our four children are all out of the house with three out of state. I would like time to visit them and my grandchildren, along with caring for elderly family members,” said Yount. “Having four children in the district gave me some insight on what was going on in the schools.
"Parents also had opportunities to approach me as I was active in all of our children’s schools. Now that our children have graduated, I would miss that connection.”
Yount also volunteers for the Bloomington High School Promise Council and the local mission committee at E-Free Church in Bloomington which partners with Sheridan Elementary.
District 87 is taking applications and the school board will be conducting interviews to find a successor.
The board plans to appoint someone to fill the remaining two years of Yount’s term at its Sept. 25 meeting.
