Four Illinois State University student-athletes have now tested positive for the coronavirus, ISU Athletics reported Wednesday.
The three most recent positive cases resulted from a second big round of testing for incoming student-athletes returning to campus, said Athletics spokesperson Mike Williams. In this round, 123 student-athletes and employees were tested, turning up the three positive tests. One other student-athlete tested positive during an earlier round of testing in June.
To date, ISU Athletics has seen four positive tests out of 283 administered, or 1.4%.
The positive tests came from three Redbird football players and one men's basketball player, Williams said. Two of them have recovered and returned to their teams. The two others remain quarantined and are getting remote check-ins from athletic training staff, Williams said.
The fall semester begins at ISU on Aug. 17. The university is planning a mix of in-person, online, and hybrid instruction.
