The Normal Public Library has reopened to the public, after being closed for seven months.

The library opened its doors Wednesday for what officials are calling "grab and go service." Visits are limited to one hour each, with preferably just one member of the household visiting at a time.

"We are thrilled to welcome the community back to Normal Public Library," said Director Brian Chase. "We very much appreciate everyone's patience as we have worked to provide a safe facility with improved accessibility, and thank you in advance for your commitment to helping ensure the health and safety of our patrons and staff."

The library remained closed as a restroom renovation project was completed. Without sinks available for COVID-recommended hand washing, library leaders elected to stay closed.

Masks and social distancing will be required.

Certain areas and collections of the library will be unavailable for use, including meeting rooms, the Discovery room, all puppets and toys, children’s computers and iPads, the tech playground, and most seating areas. Notary and test proctoring services also are not available at this time.

NPL’s general hours will be:

  • 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays
  • 1-5 p.m. Sundays
