Deputy Chief Eric West becomes Bloomington's interim fire chief on Nov. 16 following Brian Mohr's retirement.

Bloomington City Manager Tim Gleason has named an interim fire chief following Brian Mohr's retirement.
Deputy Chief Eric West has 29 years with the department. His interm appointment will take effect Nov. 16.

West has been deputy chief of operations since 2015. He's also been a HAZMAT field instructor for the Illinois Fire Institute since 2003.

“It was an easy choice for me to have Eric step right in and serve in this longer-term interim role,” Gleason said. “His years of experience, community relationships, and sound knowledge of both local needs and national trends make him a great choice to lead the department during this time.”

Gleason said the city staff will conduct a nationwide search for a new fire chief after the first of the year.
