Illinois State University has named the four finalists to become its next athletics director.

The four finalists will be doing interviews with campus stakeholders via Zoom during the week of Dec. 14. They are:

  • Kyle Brennan, the deputy athletics director and chief operating officer for the University of Utah
  • Tamica Smith Jones, director of intercollegiate athletics at the University of California, Riverside
  • Derek van de Merwe, assistant vice president and chief operating officer at the University of Arizona, where he's sport administrator for football
  • Tom Michael, athletics director at Eastern Illinois University

You can see more biographical information about each candidate on ISU's website.

The finalists were selected by a search committee formed after Larry Lyons announced his retirement. The university hired Witt/Kieffer, a national executive search firm, to assist.

Lyons retires at the end of the year. The new AD is expected to be in place after the first of the year.
