Spilled rail cargo caught fire again Monday at the site of a weekend train derailment near Uptown Normal.
The Normal Fire Department said around 10:45 a.m. Monday that it was working to control the fire, near Vernon and Hester avenues. The public was asked to avoid the area, which was congested with emergency vehicles.
That was the same area where a train debris fire broke out Sunday. That fire sent nontoxic, water-soluble paint into Sugar Creek, which became discolored. Authorities said it was not harmful.
Federal authorities are investigating the cause of Saturday's train derailment.
Normal firefighters were also kept busy this weekend with a large fire at the Sugar Creek Apartments complex.
