Kenneth C. Stoewer, Bloomington

Kenneth C. Stoewer, 89, of Bloomington, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at Carriage Crossing in Bloomington.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 28 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Rev. David Richardson officiating. A private interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions should be made in Ken’s name to Transitions Hospice, 1713 Tullamore Ave. Bloomington, IL.

Ken was born February 5, 1936, in Galena, the son of Charles and Mildred Anger Stoewer. He married Juliann Bennett on December 31, 1960, in Galena. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2019.

Survivors include five children, Kim (Randy) Burd, Washington, Steve Stoewer, Normal, Kelly (Tom) Schroeder, Normal, Karin (Ron) Thein, Bloomington and Scott (Theresa) Stoewer, Bloomington; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Richard and Gerald Stoewer.

Ken graduated from Galena High School in Galena, Il. Ken proudly served in the US Army for 3 years before continuing his education at Illinois State University. He dedicated over 30 years as a service technician for GTE/Verizon. Following retirement, Ken and his wife, Julie embraced their love of travel, sharing memorable adventures, especially casino trips with family and friends.

Ken was a founding member and an usher at Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal.

In his younger years, Ken officiated local high school football and basketball.

Ken deeply loved his family, especially his 14 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life; tending to his prized tomatoes, helping his neighbors, finding a good bargain and cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs and ISU Redbirds!

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Carriage Crossing of Bloomington and Transitions Hospice for the kind, compassionate and loving care they provided to Ken and his family.
