About a month after appearing with Donald Trump in southern Illinois, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis will attend former President Barack Obama's Friday visit to Urbana-Champaign.

Obama will speak at Foellinger Auditorium as he accepts the Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government. GLT will broadcast Obama's speech live at 11 a.m. on 89.1 FM and WGLT.org.

“It’s an honor when any sitting or former President of the United States visits the 13th District,” Davis said in a statement. “President Obama’s decision to receive the award at UIUC says a lot about President Killeen, faculty, and students. I look forward to joining them in welcoming President Obama to campus. I’m proud of this prestigious campus and I was honored to participate in Vice President Joe Biden’s rally against sexual assault on college campuses in 2015."

Davis, a Taylorville Republican, joined Trump in July in Granite City, outside St. Louis. Trump was making his first visit to Illinois since being elected, celebrating a U.S. steel company's decision re-employ hundreds of laid-off workers at a mill in Granite City.

"While President Obama and I certainly have our policy differences, I was fortunate enough to be able to work with his administration on issues like trade, transportation, human trafficking, cancer research, and others," said Davis, who faces a tough re-election fight against Democratic challenger Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.

Friday will mark Obama's first central Illinois visit since February 2016, when he made a second-term stop in Springfield.
