McLean County Board Chairman John McIntyre plans to present a County Board nominee for the board to consider at its July 16 meeting.

McLean County plans to consider five candidates for its vacant County Board seat.

Scott Murphy of Downs announced last month he was resigning from his seat because he is moving out of District 2 and buying a house in Bloomington-Normal.

District 2 covers much of southeastern McLean County.

The County Board Executive Committee has scheduled interviews with the five candidates at its meeting on July 9 at 4:30 p.m.

According to documents the county has posted online, the candidates are:

  • William Friedrich of rural Heyworth, chairman of the Bloomington Township Public Water District
  • Clarence Thomas, a farmer and tax accountant from rural Heyworth
  • Ruth Novosad, of Old Town Township, a retired systems manager at State Farm
  • Chelsie Leffelman a freelance English teacher and GOP precinct committeeman from rural Bellflower
  • Marty Tipsord, a retired mail carrier and Republican committeeman from Saybrook

County Board Chairman John McIntyre will recommend a candidate for the full County Board to consider at its July 16 meeting.
State law requires the county replace Murphy with a Republican.
