McIntyre To Seek Another Term On McLean County Board

McLean County Board chair John McIntyre said Thursday he plans to run for re-election.

McIntyre represents District 5, which includes much of northeast Normal. The Republican was elected County Board chair in 2016 after serving eight years as a board member.

“I believe in good governance and finding common ground,” McIntyre said in a statement. “Our future in good local government should not be about politics but about good legislation to make the best decisions to serve all of the residents of this county.”

McIntyre touted the overall financial health of county government, including a flat tax rate since 2012. That’s despite challenges such as unfunded mandates, increased costs, and only modest increases to the county’s property tax base, McIntyre said.

McIntyre also pointed to his role in co-writing the McLean County Mental Health Action Plan, which recently resulted in the opening of the new jail addition. The county recently added several programs, including telepsychiatry, FUSE (frequent user systems engagement), and a mental health triage.

McIntyre said there’s still more to do, including increasing the availability of psychiatric treatment and counseling services in McLean County and for youths in all schools in the county.

“I would like to be re-elected to be the board and chairmanship to see this mental health project be completely carried out and actively be providing all of the necessary services. Our combined efforts have become gradually successful, but we still need improved cooperation from and collaboration among all of our providers,” he said.

The candidate-filing period begins Monday. McIntyre is expected to face Democrat Rachael Lund of Normal in the November 2020 election. Previously a systems engineer for the Department of Defense, Lund moved to Normal early this year and is now a researcher at State Farm. She helped form the Young Democrats of McLean County.

McIntyre ran unopposed in 2016.
