Seven new cases of the coronavirus were reported Monday in McLean County, continuing an uptick in cases that began just before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
There have been 19 new cases reported in the past week. That's the highest number for any seven-day period since late May.
There are now 22 active cases in McLean County—all people isolating at home. That's the highest active-case count since June 3. No one is hospitalized.
The vast majority of people (244 of 279 confirmed cases) already have recovered. Thirteen people have died, including 10 tied to a single Bloomington nursing home.
The seven new patients announced Monday are all white, ranging in age from 10 to 19 years old, and others in their 20s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.
It's unclear what has led to the uptick in cases. One factor could be increased testing.
The Bloomington drive-thru site at the Interstate Center tested a record 1,431 people in the week ending Friday, July 3. (The site was closed Saturday and Sunday.)
Other factors could include the reopening of more businesses with Phase 4 of the governor's reopening plan. The recent social justice rallies could be another factor, although McLean County Health Department officials said last week that they had not traced any local cases to such events.
People who took part in large Fourth of July gatherings are encouraged to get tested within 5 to 7 days, per Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines.
