Highway 309 LIVE

Highway 309 LIVE celebrates Women’s History Month
The series returns Wednesday, March 20, at the Normal Theater. Doors open at 6 p.m.
For the third show in the series presented by CEFCU, WGLT welcomes Nashville’s Crys Matthews. Hailed as a rising folk music star by NPR’s Ann Powers, Matthews makes her Bloomington-Normal debut to share songs from her Changemakers album.
Matthews was born and raised in a small town in southeastern North Carolina by an AME preacher and has witnessed the power of music from an early age. A former drum major and classically trained clarinetist turned folk singer, Matthews uses her voice to answer Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s call to be "a drum major for justice." Through her music Matthews hopes to amplify the voices of the unheard, shed light on the unseen, and be a steadfast reminder that hope and love are the truest pathways to equity and justice.
Opening for Matthews is Peoria’s Sarah and the Underground led by Sarah Marie Dillard. Dillard and bass player Brandon Mooberry describe their music as “soul folk with a twist of jazz."
Event is free and open to all ages.
