Bloomington Construction Worker Killed In Work Zone Crash

A Bloomington man died Tuesday after he was struck by a vehicle in a construction zone in Gridley.

UPDATED 10:10 A.M. | McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder has identified the construction worker who was struck and killed while directing traffic through a work zone in Gridley. Yoder said Larry Williams, 59, of Bloomington was pronounced dead shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday in the emergency room at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, about an hour after the crash. 

lllinois State Police said a car traveling westbound on U.S. Route 24 at Ford Street struck and killed Williams as he stood in the construction zone. The crash happened at 8:51 a.m. 

Yoder said Williams died from head injuries, according to preliminary autopsy results. 

The driver, Abuelsood Juma, 58, of Peoria was issued tickets for failure to yield to a construction worker and speeding. 

Illinois State Police and the McLean County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate.
