Authorities have identified a 34-year-old Bloomington man as the driver killed in Wednesday’s head-on crash on Interstate 74 near Morton.
Preliminary autopsy results show Nicacio Gomez-Mecinas died of blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, Tazewell County Coroner Charles R. Hanley said Thursday. Toxicology results are pending.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Gomez-Mecinas lost control of his westbound van due to icy conditions and veered onto eastbound I-74, authorities said. The van collided head-on with a semitrailer truck.
Two passengers and the truck driver were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
